The Birmingham Squadron is a professional basketball team competing in the NBA G League and affiliated with the New Orleans Pelicans. Founded in 2019 initially as the Erie BayHawks, the franchise relocated to Birmingham, Alabama in 2021 following arena renovations. The team plays its home games at the Legacy Arena and sports the colors red, gold, and navy blue. Owned by the New Orleans Pelicans, the Squadron serves as their official G League affiliate. The team name and logo reflect both local history and the Pelicans’ identity, embodying connections to Alabama’s military aviation heritage and the city of Birmingham.
