Jesse Edwards, the Dutch seven-foot center, has officially signed with Kosner Baskonia for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, the club announced on Tuesday. Arriving in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Edwards aims to reinforce Baskonia’s interior lineup as they compete in Spain’s Liga Endesa, although his participation will be limited to domestic league games and will exclude EuroLeague appearances.
Proven Performance in Australasia’s NBL Elevates His Role
Prior to joining Baskonia, Edwards made a significant impact with Melbourne United in the NBL, where he averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. His physical presence and mobility bring a valuable edge to Baskonia’s frontcourt during a crucial stage of the season. Head coach Paolo Galbiati will rely on Edwards’ rim protection and efficient scoring near the basket as the team pushes for a stronger position in the standings.
College and Early Professional Career Shaped Defensive Versatility
Before turning professional, Edwards developed his skills over four years at Syracuse, followed by a final collegiate season at West Virginia during 2023-24. Undrafted in 2024, he joined the Minnesota Timberwolves and appeared in two NBA games, spending most of that season with their G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. This experience helped him grow his defensive abilities, laying the groundwork for his successful transition to international basketball.
International Experience with Netherlands National Team
Hailing from Amsterdam, Edwards is a key player for the Netherlands national team. He competed at EuroBasket 2022 and has taken part in qualifying rounds for the 2023 and 2027 FIBA World Cups, as well as in the Olympic Pre-Qualifiers for Paris 2024. His international exposure adds valuable experience to Baskonia’s roster as they prepare for the final phase of the season.
Upcoming Medical and Integration into Baskonia’s Roster
Edwards is expected to arrive in Vitoria-Gasteiz shortly to complete the mandatory medical examinations before joining his new teammates for training sessions.
