Jesse David Edwards is a Dutch professional basketball player for Melbourne United of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball for the Syracuse Orange and the West Virginia Mountaineers. Standing at 2.15 m (7 ft 1⁄2 in), he plays the center position. He also plays for the Netherlands men’s national basketball team.
Early Life and Background
Jesse Edwards was born on March 18, 2000, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He grew up in a family with a Dutch mother and a British father, alongside two siblings. Edwards began playing basketball at the age of 14, joining the youth section of Apollo Amsterdam. After completing his education at Amsterdams Lyceum high school, he furthered his basketball career by playing on the Post Grad team for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. During his time at Apollo Amsterdam, he played alongside Quinten Post, who later became a center for the Golden State Warriors.
Path to Basketball
Edwards received offers from several colleges, including Georgia Tech and Providence, but ultimately committed to Syracuse University in April 2019. His college career at Syracuse saw him gradually improve his performance, averaging 2.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game as a freshman. He recorded his first career double-double on December 5, 2021, with 11 points and 12 rebounds against Florida State. Unfortunately, his sophomore season was cut short due to a wrist injury. As a junior, he averaged 12 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, showcasing his potential as a key player for the team. In the 2022–23 season, Edwards excelled, averaging 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game, shooting an impressive 59.2 percent from the field. In April 2023, he transferred to West Virginia University, where he continued to shine, averaging 15.0 points on 61.3% shooting, along with 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Jesse Edwards signed a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 9, 2024. He made his NBA debut on March 2, 2025, against the Phoenix Suns, becoming the third Dutch player to debut in the league that season. However, his time with the Timberwolves was short-lived, as he was waived on August 1, 2025. Shortly after, on August 12, 2025, Edwards signed with Melbourne United in the Australian National Basketball League, marking a significant step in his professional career.
