Jeremy Sochan returned to action for the San Antonio Spurs during their 138-125 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, playing the final 3 minutes and 45 seconds. After missing five games with a left quadriceps strain, Sochan was cleared to play for the first time since January 25 but logged limited minutes, finishing with no points on one shot attempt and recording one block.
Reduced Role Despite Early Career Minutes
Even though Sochan has been out of the lineup recently, he remains outside head coach Mitch Johnson’s regular rotation, only appearing during garbage time once the Spurs had secured a comfortable lead. In his first three seasons, Sochan averaged at least 25 minutes per game, but this season he has seen a decrease to 12.8 minutes across 28 games. Despite this, the Spurs have become a strong contender in the Western Conference.
Upcoming Contract Situation and Team Decisions
At 22 years old, Sochan is approaching restricted free agency this summer. It is uncertain whether the Spurs will extend a qualifying offer to retain his rights or decide to allow him to enter the open market, giving Sochan an opportunity to explore other options. The team’s decision could shape his future role moving forward.
