Jayson Tatum Resumes 5-on-5 Amid Achilles Rehab Progress

The Boston Celtics remain the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference while Jayson Tatum focuses on his Achilles rehab. Recently, Tatum has advanced to playing controlled 5-on-5 scrimmages with coaches as part of his recovery, signaling a meaningful step toward returning to game action.

Details on Tatum’s Return to Practice

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Tatum has aggressively pursued every phase of his rehabilitation. He has now begun limited 5-on-5 sessions with the coaching staff, marking progress but still facing significant hurdles before full return.

“Sources tell me Jayson Tatum has started controlled 5-on-5 scrimmaging with coaches as he’s aggressively attacked his rehab at every turn,”

Charania stated.

“There’s more boxes for Jayson Tatum to check. There are more phases in his rehab; he has to practice with the team, of course, and then it’s the normal nerves of coming back from an injury of this magnitude.”

Challenges Associated With Achilles Injuries

Achilles ruptures typically sideline players for an entire season, and Tatum’s situation is no different. Before returning, he must be fully cleared by Boston’s medical staff to ensure he can perform at his previous level without risk of exacerbating the injury.

“Jayson Tatum has made clear to people around him from my understanding that he wants to come back as close to Jayson Tatum, as Jayson Tatum, as possible,”

Charania reported.

“Not a shell of himself, not a lesser percentage of himself. And the other side of all of that is the Celtics’ medical staff will have to clear him 100% before he can return.”

Outlook on Return Timeline and Team Implications

With approximately 30 games remaining in the season, Tatum faces a significant challenge to ramp up and rejoin active competition. While a return this season is uncertain, it is more likely that he will be fully prepared to contribute next year, benefiting from additional recovery time.

Meanwhile, Tatum can continue to watch his Celtics teammates as they perform effectively in his absence, maintaining strong positioning in the playoffs. His aggressive rehabilitation efforts highlight his commitment to returning to peak form for Boston’s future campaigns.
