Lakers’ Roster Moves and Player Development Plans
Following the NBA trade deadline, the Lakers made just one roster move, trading Gabe Vincent to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Luke Kennard. This created a roster opening that the Lakers filled by signing former first-round pick and G League standout Kobe Bufkin to a two-year contract on Saturday. Bufkin’s signing ensures continued depth and growth within the organization.
Along with James’ G League assignment, the Lakers also sent Dalton Knecht and Adou Thiero to South Bay for practice sessions. Thiero’s reassignment is especially encouraging as he works toward recovery from a knee injury sustained in late December. The Lakers have increasingly relied on South Bay to nurture players and build talent over recent seasons.
Bronny James’ NBA and G League Performance This Season
Bronny James has appeared in 27 NBA games this season, including one start, averaging just over six minutes per game—similar to his rookie year usage. During this time, he has averaged 1.9 points and 1.1 assists, shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. As the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, James remains under contract for two more seasons, with a team option extending into 2027-28.
In the G League, James has played nine games this season, down from 18 contests last year. His averages in South Bay stand at 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, shooting 45.1 percent from the field, 29.2 percent on three-pointers, and 80 percent from the free-throw line. These numbers reflect his ongoing development and adjustment to professional competition.
