Cam Thomas, formerly a forward with the Brooklyn Nets, has officially joined the Milwaukee Bucks after being waived by the Nets last week. Eager to start fresh, Thomas views this move as an excellent opportunity to contribute and succeed with his new team, feeling warmly welcomed since his arrival.
Thomas Shares His Enthusiasm for Joining Milwaukee
Thomas expressed his excitement about the transition, emphasizing how valued he feels by the Bucks organization.
“It’s new beginnings. Happy for the opportunity. Happy that everybody is embracing me. Everybody’s happy that I’m here. Everybody wanted me,”
he stated.
“So, I feel great. Can’t wait to get on the court and help win. The front office told me that they always wanted me, always called about me, been trying to get me here for years. So, that definitely plays a part in your decision to go somewhere. I really felt wanted by the guys.”
He also highlighted his earlier conversations with the Bucks’ coaching staff and his belief that he can fit seamlessly into the team’s dynamic.
“Talked to Doc before. It was great. Great conversations. Just seeing the team, I felt like I can actually help, and contribute, and really just blend in. Be one of the guys. So, I’m just happy to be here. Happy to help. Can’t wait to get to winning with the guys for sure.”
First Media Appearance Reflects Positive Reception
During his initial media session as a Bucks player, Thomas reiterated the strong sense of support he has received.
“Happy that everybody is embracing me. Everybody’s happy that I’m here. Everybody wanted me… Front office told me that they always wanted me, always called about me, been trying to get me here for years,”
he said, showcasing his enthusiasm for joining the team.
Nets Coach Comments on Thomas’ Departure
Following Thomas’s release, Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez addressed the decision, noting that it was primarily a management choice.
“That’s probably a question for management, because my job is to coach the team on the floor,”
Fernandez explained.
“Obviously, there’s communication between management and the coaching staff, and we’re on the same page, but I’m not going to speak for Sean [Marks]. When Cam was here, he was part of us; he wore our jersey, he played hard, and competed.”
Fernandez further expressed appreciation for Thomas’s contributions with the Nets and wished him well moving forward.
“The only thing I can say is thanks for all the time he spent with us… I’ve already told you guys what type of player I thought that I wanted to see. He always worked and tried and was a teammate here. Now it’s exciting for him to start somewhere else. We just wish him luck and say thanks for wearing our jersey,”
he concluded.
Reasons Behind Thomas’ Decision to Join the Bucks
Thomas’s choice to sign with Milwaukee was influenced heavily by the Bucks’ longstanding interest in him, making the decision straightforward. According to Thomas, the team’s persistence played a crucial role.
“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me, and they told me they’ve been interested for years now. So, it’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition,”
he shared.
“And I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody, and contribute as soon as possible.”
Thomas’ Performance and Upcoming Debut
During his time with the Nets, Thomas displayed impressive offensive skills, averaging 21.4 points per game over the last three seasons with shooting splits of .434/.353/.860, reflecting his scoring efficiency. His scoring prowess is expected to be a valuable asset for the Bucks. Thomas is scheduled to make his Bucks debut in the upcoming game against the Orlando Magic on Monday, marking an important milestone in his career with Milwaukee.
What Joining the Bucks Means for Thomas and the Team
Thomas’s arrival bolsters the Bucks’ roster with a dynamic scoring option who has already demonstrated high-level offensive ability. The mutual eagerness between player and team suggests a promising fit that could contribute to Milwaukee’s ongoing pursuit of success. As Thomas becomes integrated into the Bucks’ lineup, expectations are high for his role in helping the team secure victories moving forward.
