Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City Thunder guard and reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, has announced his decision to invest in the TD Coliseum located in Hamilton, Ontario, his hometown. His involvement strengthens ties between the athlete and the city’s latest major entertainment venue.
Part of Gilgeous-Alexander’s investment includes the naming of an atrium on York Boulevard as the “Ares Atrium,” honoring his son. Financial aspects of this investment have not been publicly revealed.
Personal Connection and Community Impact
Reflecting on his decision, Gilgeous-Alexander shared,
“Becoming part of the ownership group at TD Coliseum is really personal for me,”
and added,
“Growing up in Hamilton shaped who I am, so having the opportunity to help build something special in my hometown means everything.”
Chris Granger, CEO of Oak View Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating,
“Shai’s investment in TD Coliseum is another exciting moment for this project and the city of Hamilton,”
and further noted,
“This investment reflects a mutual commitment to Hamilton’s development and the long-term impact of this endeavor. We are excited to welcome Shai and his family to the TD Coliseum team.”
TD Coliseum’s Growing Role in Hamilton’s Entertainment Scene
The arena opened in late November 2025 with a sold-out event featuring Paul McCartney. Since then, TD Coliseum has hosted a variety of concerts and events, including performances by Bocelli, the Jonas Brothers, machine gun kelly, comedian Matt Rife, and a recent game during the Professional Women’s Hockey League takeover tour.
Upcoming events scheduled at the venue include Disney on Ice, Journey, Cardi B, Twice, Ne-Yo, Akon, and the 55th annual JUNO Awards slated for March.
Significance of the Investment for Hamilton’s Future
Gilgeous-Alexander’s decision to invest demonstrates a meaningful commitment to his hometown’s cultural infrastructure and underscores the TD Coliseum’s growing importance as a hub for world-class entertainment and sporting events. This partnership is likely to encourage further developments, boost local pride, and attract future opportunities for Hamilton.
