After joining the Milwaukee Bucks following his release from the Brooklyn Nets, Cam Thomas is aiming to establish himself as a vital contributor for his new team. His potential was evident during the Bucks’ 116-108 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night, where his scoring prowess shone alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. Head coach Doc Rivers expressed enthusiasm about Thomas, drawing parallels with previous standout scorers he has coached.
Thomas’ Scoring Showcase Highlights His Role with the Bucks
In the win against the Magic, Cam Thomas delivered a game-high 34 points, shooting 12 of 20 from the floor and connecting on four out of six three-point attempts. In addition to his scoring, he contributed four rebounds and two assists. Demonstrating a strong ability to heat up as the game progressed, Thomas reminded fans of coaches’ former players known for their scoring bursts. Doc Rivers compared him to Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams, noting both differences and shared traits among the three.

Rivers said, via Michael Scotto.
“And now, I have Cam Thomas.”
“They’re similar, but they’re all different in their own ways,”
Rivers added.
“Cam wants to do right. He wants to play well. You can see that. And we’re going to give him every opportunity. I mean, the guy is a natural scorer, and you can see that. Probably forced one or two today where he overdribbled. You live with that, and you teach that to get that out of him. But overall, he was fantastic.”
Cam Thomas Reflects on the Encouraging Words from Doc Rivers
Cam Thomas responded to the coach’s comparisons with appreciation, recognizing Rivers’ confidence in his abilities early on. Thomas acknowledged his reputation as a scorer while emphasizing other aspects of his game that often go unnoticed.
“It means a lot, (Rivers) having that confidence (in me) early,”
Thomas shared, via The Athletic.
“I’d say everybody knows I can score … I mean, that’s the name of the game — getting buckets, scoring — but I am more than just a scorer. I feel like playmaking, drawing the defense on me, making the right play, I feel like that’s a part of my game that gets underrated just because I score the ball so well.”
Outlook for Thomas’ Influence on the Bucks’ Future Games
With his scoring talent and passing ability, Thomas appears ready to become a valuable weapon for Milwaukee. His performance against Orlando provided a glimpse of what he can bring to the team as they look to strengthen their offense around Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks will next test their abilities as they face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night, where Thomas will have another chance to impact the game significantly.
