“He just made plays on the defensive side of the floor and offensively that were championship-calibre.”
Hartman described Martin as a “gold standard” and “a Gator for life,” adding that he follows Martin’s professional games when possible and often discusses him in recruitment conversations.

Martin’s presence on the Raptors’ NBA roster has been intermittent, but one standout performance came last month against the Philadelphia 76ers. In 29 minutes on the court, he delivered an impressive stat line with nine points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. More importantly, his lockdown defense forced the 76ers’ backcourt duo of Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe into committing nine turnovers collectively.
“I love those types of games; it was dirty out there,”
Martin reflected after the victory.
“We had to fight all game and we prevailed. I’m one of those guys that just enjoys playing defence. If you make a tough shot, I’m going to pat you on the back and we’ve got to do it again.”

“Obviously his college career, what he went through built that stamina that he’s playing with. He has no agenda. Does he score two points or 17 points? He doesn’t care about it; all he cares about is how to help the team win.”
Jamal Shead, a Raptors backup point guard who also advanced from Raptors 905, highlighted Martin’s biggest strength as his relentless spirit and heart, essential qualities that complement his defensive skillset.
“He’s helped us in major ways, especially on the defensive end,”
Shead remarked.
“I think once he starts hitting the shots, once he gets up here and starts hitting those shots along with his defence, the sky is the limit for him.”
Shead drew comparisons between their playing styles, acknowledging Martin’s scoring ability paired with his disruptive defense.
“He’s more of a scorer and, you know, he’s more of a guy that has a bag and a little swag. I’m just more of a creator,”
Shead added.
“Once he gets used to the pace and everything going on up here, the game will slow down for him and he’ll be able to make a lot of reads.”
