Jaylen Brown Says Only His Event Was Shut Down at All-Star Weekend

During NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills police shut down an event hosted by Jaylen Brown. The city attributed the closure to permit issues, but Brown disputed this, claiming he was the only person whose event was halted and that the city’s explanation was “completely false.” He said the shutdown caused him to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Brown Challenges Official Claims About Permit Issues

The event took place at a Beverly Hills mansion and was organized under Brown’s 741 brand, focusing on themes of culture, independence, and creative freedom. Brown described the gathering as a positive space for discussion.

We had a pop-up talking about culture, talking about the future of independence, creative control, et cetera. A bunch of different people that were just there to just talk about positivity in the community,

Brown explained. Beverly Hills authorities said the event lacked a required permit, which had been denied due to prior violations at the venue, a point that Brown strongly contested.

The statement they put out is completely false. I stand by that,

Brown asserted.

Brown Criticizes Police Response and Lack of Dialogue

Brown and his team believed that no permit was necessary for their event. He expressed frustration with how the authorities handled the situation, noting they did not attempt to collaborate or communicate before shutting down the event.

They didn’t try to work with us. They didn’t try to have a conversation. They came right in and shut everything down,

Brown said.

Brown Says His Event Was Singled Out Among Numerous Weekend Activities

NBA All-Star Weekend typically features multiple events, but Brown suggested his was uniquely targeted.

It just seemed like somebody didn’t want whatever we had going on to go on because out of everybody that was doing something, it seemed like I was the only one that gets shut down,

he remarked, raising concerns about fairness and potential bias in enforcement.

Financial Losses and Continuing Dispute

Brown emphasized the significant monetary impact that the shutdown caused, estimating losses in the six-figure range connected to the event’s cancellation.

hundreds of thousands of dollars lost down the toilet,

he stated. Brown’s 741 brand serves as an outlet for his initiatives beyond basketball, and he has been active in social discussions throughout his career. The disagreement with Beverly Hills authorities remains unresolved.
