Anthony Edwards reflected on the important lessons he absorbed from NBA veterans while representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, emphasizing how routines have shaped his approach to the game. Speaking after the All-Star event held Sunday at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Edwards highlighted the value of consistency in his daily preparation, especially when on the court.
Influence of Elite Players on Edwards’ Game and Routine
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard, who was named MVP after Team USA Stars won the 2026 All-Star championship against Team USA Stripes with a 47–21 score, acknowledged the impact of players like Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James on his mindset and habits.
Playing with the USA team, it taught me about having a routine, especially when it comes to being on the court,
Edwards said after the game, via NBC Bay Area.
Watching Steph, [Kevin Durant] and [LeBron James] every day do the same routine – it’s normal for a person to get bored with the same thing; waking up, doing this, every single day. But I feel like that’s what made them great. That’s what they taught me for sure,
Edwards added.
Consistent Performance and Ambitions for Continued Growth
Edwards contributed 13 points in the final All-Star mini-tournament game, maintaining his strong season trajectory with a career average of 24.5 points per game over six years. This season, he has improved his efficiency significantly, shooting 49.3% from the field and 40.2% from three-point range while averaging 29.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists across 46 games.
At 24 years old, Edwards’ commitment to structure and repetition reflects a larger trend among rising stars who look to veterans for mentorship. By adopting rigorous routines, he aims to boost both his personal performance and his leadership role within the Timberwolves as the team seeks a strong playoff position in the highly competitive Western Conference, where Minnesota holds sixth place with a 34–22 record.
Routines as a Foundation for Long-Term Success in the NBA
Edwards’ emphasis on routine highlights how consistency remains vital for athletes aspiring to reach and sustain elite levels. His experience with Team USA veterans offers a blueprint that could influence his career trajectory, potentially helping the Timberwolves advance deeper into the playoffs and secure a prominent place in the league’s future.
