Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball will participate in Thursday night’s game against the Houston Rockets, just one day after being involved in a two-car accident in Uptown Charlotte. Ball was unharmed when his customized GMC EV Hummer collided with another vehicle at a busy intersection, though the crash left his vehicle severely damaged.
Details of the Incident in Downtown Charlotte
Video footage from WSOC-TV captured the moment Ball’s vehicle collided with a KIA sedan shortly before 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The impact dislodged the front left tire of the Hummer, which then came to rest near the shoulder of the road. Ball was seen leaving the scene in a Lamborghini soon afterwards. Both cars were towed from the site, but official accident reports have not yet been released.
Ball’s Recent Performance and Hornets’ Standings
LaMelo Ball has been central to the Hornets’ recent success, as they have won 10 of their last 11 games. The sixth-year guard, originally the No. 3 overall draft pick, is putting up strong numbers this season with averages of 19.3 points and 7.4 assists per game. Charlotte currently holds the No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference standings with a 26-29 record, trailing Miami by 3.5 games.
Strong Lineup Boosts Playoff Hopes
The Hornets’ promising roster includes Ball alongside standout rookie Kon Kneuppel, Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, and Moussa Diabate. This combination has lifted Charlotte’s chances of making the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season, especially if the team maintains its momentum. Earlier this month, Ball contributed 20 points during a road win over the Rockets, marking the Hornets’ eighth consecutive victory — a feat not achieved since the 1999-2000 season.
Outlook Following the Car Accident
Despite the shock of the accident, LaMelo Ball’s ability to play in the upcoming game reinforces his resilience and readiness to lead the Hornets on the court. As the team pushes toward the postseason, his health and performance remain crucial to Charlotte’s aspirations in a highly competitive Eastern Conference.
