Jeremy Sochan recently joined the New York Knicks and made his debut in a game against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, which ended in a 126-111 defeat for the Knicks. Despite the team’s loss, the Knicks’ head coach, Mike Brown, expressed admiration for Sochan’s effort during the match, noting his physical presence and defensive intensity.
Coach Mike Brown Commends Sochan’s Defensive Tenacity
Sochan played 10 minutes in his first game as a Knick, contributing two points, two assists, and one block. While these numbers offer a basic overview, Brown emphasized the importance of Sochan’s defensive contributions, particularly his attempts to pressure and contain Pistons star Cade Cunningham.
“I thought his minutes were pretty good,”
Brown remarked after the game, as reported by SNY.
“It gives us the ability to give a guy like Cade [Cunningham] a different look. You know with his length and his strength and his athleticism, and we want to be physical.”
Brown noted Sochan’s physicality as a significant asset, praising how he maintained defensive effort despite limited recent playtime.
“He hadn’t played in a while, but most of the time that he was on the floor and guarding Cade, there was a physicality to it, and we liked that,”
said Brown.
“I thought for him, not having played in a while and him only being here for a couple of days, I thought he did a pretty good job.”
Sochan’s Journey and What His Debut Signifies
Before joining the Knicks, Jeremy Sochan faced a challenging stretch with the San Antonio Spurs, where he struggled for consistent playing opportunities. His mid-season transition to New York opens a new chapter where his defensive energy and versatility may prove valuable. Brown’s measured optimism reflects his belief that Sochan’s grit and size will fit the Knicks’ physical style of play.
Looking ahead, Sochan’s ability to match up against high-level opponents like Cunningham could offer New York additional matchup options, especially as the team seeks to improve performance after recent setbacks. His debut suggests that the Knicks see Sochan as a promising piece to shore up their defense and provide versatility on the court.
