Paolo Banchero Leads Magic to Franchise 3-Point Record Win

The Orlando Magic showcased a commanding performance right after the All-Star break, defeating the Sacramento Kings 131-94 while setting a new franchise record for three-pointers made in a single game. Orlando sank 27 of 50 attempts from beyond the arc, demonstrating excellent ball movement, spacing, and sharp shooting throughout the contest. Paolo Banchero spearheaded the effort, scoring 30 points alongside six assists, five rebounds, a steal, and a block over 32 minutes. He was efficient shooting 10-for-21 overall, including 5-of-7 from three-point range and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Banchero Highlights Team Focus and Execution Behind Record Performance

Following the game, Banchero attributed the record-breaking night to strong execution and mutual trust among teammates. He said,

“Yeah, just a good, good way to start this back half of the season coming off the break setting a three point record,”

emphasizing its importance as a positive indicator. Banchero added,

“That’s a great sign and yeah, I think we just did a good job of like I said, finding the advantage and then playing from there and finding the open man.”

He also praised the team’s confidence and decisiveness on long-range shots, stating,

“I think we just did a good job of making the defense have to react to what we were doing and then that leading to a guy being open, finding that guy, and then whoever that was – stepping into their shot and knocking it down with confidence.”

Banchero continued,

“I thought guys didn’t hesitate from three today. When they’re open, guys let it fly including myself, you know, just being confident in the shot, living with the results and today they were falling at a high level.”

Banchero’s Aggressive Approach and Defensive Effort Fuel Offense

Banchero explained his aggressive mindset as integral to the team’s success on the night.

“Just trying to come out, impose my will, be aggressive,”

he noted.

“Like you said, a lot of important games coming up so I think everybody on the team understands that just coming out, doing whatever we gotta do to win these games.”

Orlando head coach Jamahl Mosley connected the offensive outburst to the defensive intensity set by the team.

“I really think it was our defense creating some early, easy offensive looks,”

Mosley said.

“We were able to get downhill, attack the basket, and then we’re able to get the spray outs for feet set threes. I thought our guys did a great job of sharing it, moving it, trusting the pass and just trusting their teammates.”

He further praised the preparation that set the stage for the franchise milestone. Mosley said,

“I think the guys did a great job at practice yesterday, understanding the shots we were going to get versus this team. Our coaches did a great job of getting these guys set up in the right situations, the right spaces, and guys were confident and comfortable setting their feet down and being ready to knock down shots.”

Defensive Pressure Drives Steals Streak and Offensive Rhythm

Mosley also applauded Banchero’s assertiveness throughout the game.

“I love how he got settled into the game, started off being very aggressive early, getting downhill, attacking the basket when he’s open, stepping into a shot, finding guys knowing how they were guarding him,”

he said.

“I thought he did a great job of finding teammates, but just overall our team I think we just did a very good job of trusting our defense to lead to our offense, and that was why the ball was hopping the way it was.”

The Magic’s defensive effort was underscored by 13 steals recorded against Sacramento, marking the fifth straight game Orlando registered at least 10 steals, tying the third-longest such streak in franchise history. The longest streak remains seven games, achieved from January 29 to February 18, 1994. This high level of defensive activity helped generate transition scoring opportunities and establish an early offensive rhythm.

Win Boosts Magic’s Playoff Position as West Coast Trip Continues

With the win, the Magic improved to 29-25 overall, narrowing the gap to just half a game behind the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers, who hold a 30-25 record in the Eastern Conference standings. Orlando is preparing to continue its West Coast road trip with a matchup against the Phoenix Suns, who hold a 32-24 record, on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. ET broadcast on NBA TV. The team’s resurgence, highlighted by Paolo Banchero’s 3-point record and balanced defensive intensity, sets a hopeful tone for the critical games ahead in this pivotal stretch of the season.
