Warriors Owner Denies Draymond Green Trade Rumors Forever

Golden State Warriors majority owner Joe Lacob firmly denied claims that the team tried to trade Draymond Green during the recent deadline. Speaking to Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard, Lacob made it clear that Green was never seriously considered for a trade, dismissing the rumors despite widespread speculation.

Clarifying Misunderstandings Around Trade Speculation

Lacob emphasized that trade discussions rarely involve casual mentions of player names unless a deal is seriously progressing.

“He was never discussed in a trade; Mike [Dunleavy] was 100% correct what he said,”

Lacob said.

“I know he got a lot of crap for that. And it did look defensive. I mean, I think he would say that in retrospect.”

He further explained that without meaningful offers or engagement on potential trades, names like Green do not become part of formal negotiations. Lacob added,

“But the truth is, the way these things are, you don’t just easily banter around names unless you’re getting serious … We never really got engagement on some of the big deals to the point where you get into specific names.”

Draymond Green’s Role Amid Giannis Antetokounmpo Pursuit

Despite the Warriors being among the top contenders for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Green was seen by some as the leading trade asset to make room for such a move. While Green reportedly understood trade possibilities, the Bucks did not offer a deal compelling enough to trigger any exchange. Ultimately, Green remained with the Warriors through this period of uncertainty.

Green’s Importance to the Warriors Franchise

Lacob reiterated Draymond Green’s irreplaceable value to Golden State, characterizing him as the team’s core leader.

“But I can tell you he was never shopped in any way. He’s a core person in our franchise. You don’t trade a Draymond Green simply or easily,”

Lacob said.

“You do it if you have to, and you’re getting tremendous value and you’re improving your team.”

The statement highlighted the franchise’s commitment to Green despite the rumors circulating in NBA circles.

Setting the Record Straight on Trade Rumors

Both Lacob and Green have confirmed that no direct trade discussions involving Green took place with other teams, dispelling uncertainty amid mounting speculation during the trade deadline. Lacob’s remarks underscore the difficulty of separating fact from conjecture when high-profile players are involved in trade market chatter.
