Jimmy Butler III, a vital figure for the Golden State Warriors since his arrival in early 2025, suffered a torn ACL in January 2026, abruptly halting his season. The six-time NBA All-Star, who had become a cornerstone for the team’s success, is now committed to an extensive rehabilitation process expected to last 10 to 12 months.
Prior to beginning his recovery, Butler delivered an emotional message to the Warriors’ dedicated fans, reflecting on his journey and the challenges ahead following the injury.
Gratitude and Connection Expressed to Warriors Fans
Butler’s arrival to Golden State came at the February 2025 trade deadline, signing a two-year, $111 million contract that instantly elevated the team’s prospects. After he joined, the Warriors posted a 23-8 record, securing a playoff position and reigniting hope in the fanbase.
This season, Butler maintained his role as a key contributor, averaging 20 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while shooting efficiently from the field and three-point range across 31.1 minutes per game. His steady presence helped anchor the Warriors during a season filled with ups and downs.
This momentum was interrupted on January 19, when Butler sustained the ACL injury in a game against Miami. Following surgery on February 9, he began his long road to recovery.

In a heartfelt message shared by NBA writer Ray Almeda on February 20, Butler thanked Warriors season ticket holders for their support and embraced the unique energy of the Bay Area crowds.
I have played in front of many incredible crowds over my 15 seasons in the NBA,
Butler said.
But there was always something about playing in the Bay Area that made it feel like more than just another game.

He recalled the sense of purpose he immediately felt after joining Golden State, recognizing the chance to be part of a meaningful team effort.
The energy you provided us down the stretch last year was magical, as we finished the season winning 23 of 31 games and, ultimately, clinching a playoff berth.
Butler added that playing alongside star teammate Stephen Curry has been an unforgettable experience.
And playing with Steph and all of my teammates in The Bay has been an incredible experience. Steph is truly the greatest shooter and showman of all time, and I am honored to be the Robin to his Batman.

Impact of Butler’s Injury on Team and Playoff Aspirations
Before the injury, Golden State was building momentum, winning 12 of 16 games in January and showing signs of figuring out their season puzzle.
Every NBA season is a puzzle and we were beginning to figure ours out,
Butler reflected.
Unfortunately, on January 19 against Miami, I tore my ACL. I was devastated.

Recognizing the competitive nature of the Western Conference, Butler expressed the difficulty of sidelining himself during a key stretch in the team’s push for the playoffs.
After being in this league for as long as I have, you eventually realize that you only have a certain number of these golden opportunities. Nonetheless, we move forward and will continue to battle our way to the postseason.
I am excited to see my guys compete for the remainder of this season, but also heartbroken to know that I will not be out there with them. They’re my brothers.
– Jimmy Butler III
Despite the emotional toll, Butler also praised the unwavering support from the Warriors’ fans through the highs and lows experienced recently.
Despite experiencing almost every emotion over the last 12 months – from the highs of the fourth most wins in the NBA to the lows of a pair of season-ending injuries – your support has been unwavering.
I can see clearly now why you, our Warriors season ticket family, are known as the best fans in the NBA. You are our most loyal supporters, and your incredible energy is the fuel that drives this team.

Commitment to Rehabilitation and Team Outlook
Butler concluded his letter by promising to focus completely on his rehabilitation to return to the sport he loves.
I can promise you that I will attack my rehab with a singular focus that will enable me to get back to playing the game that I love,
he affirmed.
Currently, the Warriors have a record of 29-27, holding the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Without one of their most consistent performers, Golden State’s depth will be challenged as they pursue a postseason berth in the second half of the season.
Jimmy Butler has shared the following statement with me and other @warriors season ticket holders:
“Dear Warriors Season Ticket Family,
I have played in front of many incredible crowds over my 15 seasons in the NBA, but there was always something about playing in the Bay Area…
