NEW ORLEANS — In a remarkable return to form, center DeAndre Jordan delivered a standout performance on Saturday night, helping the New Orleans Pelicans secure a 126-111 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Jordan’s vintage performance, which included 15 rebounds and four blocks, was pivotal in halting the Sixers’ offense and energizing his team.
After the game, Jordan expressed his satisfaction, looking forward to unwinding with a glass of wine at home.
“I’ll probably have some Bordeaux tonight,”
he said.

The 37-year-old Jordan’s appearance was unexpected to many, as he had spent almost the entire 18th NBA season mostly on the bench. Originally brought in primarily as a mentor for the Pelicans’ younger big men, including first-round draft pick Derik Queen, Jordan had only appeared in two games this year and had not played since October 29.
However, following a disappointing defensive showing in a heavy loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, Pelicans head coach James Borrego decided to make a change by giving Jordan his 793rd career start.
“My gut was saying to make this move,”
Borrego explained, reflecting on his decision amid a challenging 16-42 season since replacing Willie Green after 12 games.

Before the game, Borrego had a quick conversation with Jordan, who was prepared and eager to contribute.
“When he got to the arena, I had a quick conversation with him. He was ready to go and we made the move,”
Borrego said.

“His impact defensively for us tonight was massive,”
Borrego noted.
“To be a good defensive ball club in this league, you’ve got to have some type of physicality, rim protection, deterrence, a presence in the middle—and he provided that.”
He added,
“He was phenomenal defensively in so many ways. Even shots he didn’t block, they weren’t sure that they wanted to get in there.”

Jordan said.
“They’ve got bigs that are part of their future. So, coming in, I knew it was going to be: Play some nights, maybe not play some nights, be a mentor. But when my number is called, I’ve got to be ready.”

Jordan’s leadership emerged during a tense moment when he stepped between Derik Queen and Sixers center Andre Drummond after an exchange under the basket turned physical. His presence helped defuse the confrontation and illustrated his importance beyond just playing time.
When asked if he envisioned a larger role for the remainder of the season, Jordan smiled and said, “I’ve got fresh legs.”
