Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball was unharmed following a two-car collision in downtown Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon, a source familiar with the event reported. The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. near an intersection, involving Ball’s distinctive camouflage-style, custom-made Hummer and another vehicle.
Details of the Incident and Immediate Aftermath
According to video obtained by WSOC-TV in Charlotte, Ball exited his truck wearing an aqua Hornets hoodie and was seen entering a different car before leaving the scene with police present. The other driver calmly exited their vehicle and approached Ball’s truck, which was missing its left front tire. No further information has been released about the second driver.
Team Condition and Upcoming Schedule
The Hornets had conducted their practice earlier that same day. With the team performing strongly—winning 10 of their last 11 games—they are set to host the Houston Rockets Thursday night as both teams resume play following the All-Star break.
Context: Other Charlotte Athletes’ Recent Accidents
Ball is the latest professional athlete in Charlotte to be involved in a vehicle accident. Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suffered a back fracture in 2014 after flipping his pickup near Bank of America Stadium, less than a mile from where Ball’s crash occurred. More recently, Panthers backup quarterback Andy Dalton sustained a thumb injury in another two-car collision in Charlotte earlier this year.
