Following the Los Angeles Clippers’ 111-109 loss to the Orlando Magic, Bennedict Mathurin stressed the importance of learning from setbacks as part of the team’s growth. Speaking after the game, he acknowledged a missed opportunity but focused on personal improvement in future situations.
“Great shot… obviously I wish I would have made that shot, but there’s nothing I can do other than work on it more to make myself feel better about it,”
Mathurin said.
Veteran Leadership Supports Young Players’ Growth
Mathurin noted the value of encouragement from experienced players, specifically highlighting Kawhi Leonard’s role in guiding younger teammates.
“Saw Kawhi go over and kind of encourage you afterwards… it means a lot, man. He’s one of the greatest players to have played the game,”
he explained, underlining how veteran presence fosters confidence and development on the roster.
Adjusting Roles Amid Team Changes
Acknowledging ongoing adjustments within the squad, Mathurin spoke about players adapting to new roles and situations since joining the Clippers.
“People are still adjusting to a lot of changes… players on the team have bigger roles or in different situations,”
he remarked, indicating that the team’s dynamic is still evolving midseason.
Balancing Recovery and Team Unity During Breaks
Mathurin also emphasized the importance of maintaining both personal health and team cohesion during rest periods.
“With the team it’s sticking together… myself, just recovering, taking care of my body… coming back for the next four games stronger,”
he said, highlighting how individual preparation aligns with shared objectives as the season progresses.
Growing Recognition and Commitment to Team Success
On facing increased attention from opponents, Mathurin revealed his focus remains on contributing to the team rather than individual stats.
“Other teams know about me more and more… just going through the rhythm… not trying to be myself out there, just helping the team,”
he shared, reflecting a mature approach toward competition and collaboration.
Strong Competitive Spirit Defines Clippers’ Identity
Mathurin lauded the Clippers’ collective drive, noting how the competitive nature of the group strengthens their identity and performance.
“It’s been great… shows a lot about who we are as players and as a team… guys are super competitive,”
he affirmed, illustrating how chemistry among new and existing players is vital to their efforts on the court.

Looking Ahead: Focused Preparation for Upcoming Games
After tallying 21 points and nine rebounds off the bench in the narrow defeat, Mathurin emphasized the significance of focused practice ahead of future matchups.
“Next three days are very important for us to get in the gym, practice, and go over defensive and offensive schemes… see when Kawhi gets doubled and what to do out there,”
he explained, pointing to the team’s dedication to refining tactics.
The Clippers currently hold a 27-29 record, positioned ninth in the Western Conference, while the Magic improved to 29-26 with Desmond Bane leading their scoring with 36 points. The Clippers will return home to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, aiming to leverage both individual progress and collective effort for a strong finish to the season.
