James Harden Opens Up on NBA Retirement Timeline After Win

James Harden, now with the Cleveland Cavaliers, is beginning to confront the reality of his NBA career winding down. Following a victorious game against his former Brooklyn Nets team, the 36-year-old spoke candidly about his retirement prospects and future plans.

Harden Acknowledges Retirement Is Near but Remains Focused

“I know it’s coming soon. Hopefully, later than soon, but it’s a reality,”

Harden remarked.

“Everybody has to go through this at some point. Just trying to continue to keep my body in shape and play well. We’ll see what happens in the next few years. Take one game at a time and cherish the moments,”

he added.

Current Performance Signals Potential for Continued Contribution

Despite contemplating retirement, Harden’s current form remains strong. He is averaging 24.5 points per game this season, his highest scoring output since the 2020-21 season, alongside 8.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds per contest. In the recent win over the Nets, he produced near triple-double numbers with 22 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

Chasing Championship Glory as Career Winds Down

Before retiring, Harden aims to secure an NBA championship, a title that has eluded him throughout his career. The Cavaliers have found momentum since acquiring Harden, boasting a 7-1 record that makes a strong Finals run a realistic goal this season.
