The Phoenix Suns have brought back forward CJ Huntley by signing him to a two-way contract, rejoining the team after parting ways earlier this season. This move was confirmed following a report by ESPN’s Shams Charania that both sides had reached a new agreement to add Huntley on a two-way deal.
Roster Adjustments Enable Huntley’s Return
To make room for Huntley, the Suns promoted Jamaree Bouyea to their regular 15-man roster, allowing them to open a spot for a player on a two-way contract. Huntley originally joined the Suns as an undrafted free agent last year right after finishing his collegiate career at Appalachian State.
Huntley’s Journey with the Suns and Development Path
Initially, Huntley signed a two-way contract with Phoenix shortly after the draft but was waived in mid-November to clear space for Bouyea. He did not play in any NBA games before his release. Following that, Huntley joined the Suns’ G League affiliate, the Valley Suns, where he has earned significant playing time and has developed his game considerably.
Performance and College Background
Over 38 games in the G League, Huntley has produced averages of 14.5 points and 7.6 rebounds in about 26 minutes per contest. He played all five of his college seasons at Appalachian State, finishing the 2024/25 campaign with averages of 15.7 points and 8.1 rebounds, shooting 49.3 percent overall and 35.6 percent from three-point range.
Implications for Huntley and the Suns’ Roster
The Suns’ decision to re-sign CJ Huntley on a two-way contract reflects their interest in continuing to develop a promising player within their system. If Huntley continues to improve, he could see increased opportunities with the main roster as the team seeks depth and versatility. His familiarity with the Valley Suns and experience gained during the G League season position him well for future contributions to the organization.
