Hall of Famer Blasts Warriors’ Mistake on Jonathan Kuminga

Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins expressed surprise that the Golden State Warriors did not fully develop Jonathan Kuminga during his four and a half years under head coach Steve Kerr. After Kuminga’s impressive one-handed dunk against Portland rookie Yang Hansen on Sunday, Wilkins openly questioned the Warriors’ ability to recognize Kuminga’s potential.

Speaking on the FanDuel Sports Network, Wilkins stated,

“Oh man, thank you, Golden State Warriors. We appreciate it.”

He continued, reflecting on Kuminga’s athletic gifts,

“I mean, this kind of play, we’ve seen Kuminga do before, you know, in Golden State, man. How you give up on a guy that young with that ability is beyond me.”

Atlanta Fans Echo Appreciation for Warriors’ Oversight

Wilkins’ criticism was echoed by Atlanta Hawks supporters, who chanted “Thank you Warriors” during Kuminga’s 21-point performance against the Trail Blazers. In his first three games with Atlanta, Kuminga is averaging 21.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals, shooting efficiently at 68% from the field, 56% from three-point range, and 77% on free throws.

All-Star forward Jalen Johnson expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Kuminga. He remarked,

“It’s cool. It’s gonna be exciting.”

Johnson added,

“I feel like we’re gonna play off each other really well. He creates a lot of pressure [driving] downhill, and he’s able to pass out of it. So if both of us can continue do that, and continue to build that chemistry, we’ll be alright.”

Coach Quin Snyder Praises Kuminga’s Team-Oriented Play

Atlanta Hawks head coach Quin Snyder has highlighted Kuminga’s growing maturity on the court, especially his emphasis on unselfish play. After the Hawks’ recent win over the Wizards, Snyder noted,

“He is really focused on moving the ball and being unselfish.”

He added,

“I thought he made a couple passes tonight that were really impressive, just looking the guy off and seeing the court. As he plays more and more, he is going to be more and more instinctive, particularly in the open court.”

Kuminga and the Hawks, currently riding a four-game winning streak with a 31-31 record, are scheduled to face the Milwaukee Bucks (26-34) on the road this Wednesday in a crucial contest.
