MILWAUKEE — On a typical Friday, the Knueppel family’s day revolves entirely around basketball, starting at 3 p.m. when eighth-grader Kidman competes for his middle school team. By 6 p.m., the focus shifts to watching Kon play for the Charlotte Hornets against the Miami Heat. Later, at 7 p.m., the family heads to Wisconsin Lutheran High School to watch brothers Kash, Kinston, and Kager in a crucial playoff game.
This hectic schedule is something parents Chari and Kon Sr. never foresaw but embrace fully as their sons make their mark both on high school courts and at the NBA level. The family’s journey centers on passion, dedication, and an unyielding love for the sport.
The Impact of Kon Knueppel’s Rise to the NBA
Known as K2, Kon Knueppel has quickly become a standout athlete, leading the league in three-pointers this season and emerging as a favorite for the Rookie of the Year award. His sudden rise to NBA prominence still feels surreal to his parents, who reflect on the journey with awe and admiration.
“In January, we had three days in the whole month that we didn’t have a basketball game to watch or go to—so super fun, super fun,”
Chari said.
“That is mind-blowing almost every single day,”
Chari added.
Kon himself never expected this path. When asked about his NBA career, he simply responded: NBA? Never thought.
Work Ethic as the Foundation for Success
Kon’s commitment to the sport cultivated a strong work ethic that has inspired his four younger brothers long before he reached the NBA. Observing Kon’s daily dedication has set expectations for the entire family.

“They saw the hard work he put in every single day, so it’s not a happy accident where he is,”
Chari explained.
“He was a pro early on — just in the way he approached everything. We had practice at Wisco at six, six blocks away. He’d be leaving at five. We’d say, ‘Where are you going?’ He’d say, ‘I’ve got to go get locked in,'”
Kon Sr. recalled.
High School Courts Packed with Family Talent
The basketball tradition continues at Wisconsin Lutheran, where Kash, Kinston, and Kager aim to secure a third consecutive state tournament championship. Their cousin, senior Zavier Zens, also plays alongside them, making the games a family affair on the court.
“Zavier is a senior, and then we’ve got 11th, 10th and 9th. Imagine being at a game and there’s always one of your kids on the court. If one gets subbed out—it’s probably another one of ours coming in,”
Kon Sr. said with a laugh.
Though the family’s schedule is demanding, parents Chari and Kon Sr. emphasize the importance of cherishing every moment together.
“2025 was the best year of my life. 2026 is shaping up pretty good, too,”
Chari reflected.
Looking Ahead: Continuing the Knueppel Family’s Basketball Legacy
The Knueppel family’s relentless dedication to basketball, spanning middle school courts to the NBA, highlights their deep connection to the game. As Kon pursues his basketball career at the professional level and his brothers chase high school glory, their story remains a compelling example of family commitment and sporting achievement in Milwaukee.
The progress of the younger Knueppel brothers in upcoming state tournaments and Kon’s rookie season will continue to capture the attention of their community and basketball fans alike.
