Quarterback Drake Maye is getting ready for the biggest challenge of his career at Super Bowl 60. Although this is Maye’s first time playing in the NFL’s championship game, he has already received guidance from former players who have experienced it firsthand.
Recently, Peyton Manning, who was once a major rival of New England during Tom Brady’s era, reached out to offer advice to Maye.
Peyton Manning’s Guidance on Maintaining Routine
On SiriusXM, Maye shared a key piece of advice Manning gave him:
“One of the first things he says, ‘Keep the schedule the same. It’s gonna be hard,’”
highlighting the importance of sticking to familiar routines during the intense atmosphere of the Super Bowl.
Manning, a Hall of Famer who earned two Super Bowl victories with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, has been a significant influence for Maye.
A Full Circle Moment for Maye
For Maye, receiving mentorship from Manning holds a special meaning.
“I was at the game 10 years ago when Peyton won against the Panthers (in Super Bowl 50),”
Maye recalled.
“That was the year my dad brought me, so it’s a pretty cool moment to kind of get to know some of these guys that I looked up to.”
He went on to express the value of the connection with past champions.
“It’s pretty special that now they’re reaching out to me and taking their time out of their day to try to help me try to go win the big one,”
Maye continued.
“So it means the world, and it’s pretty cool.”
Additional Advice from Tom Brady
Beyond Manning, Maye also received counsel from Tom Brady, who told the young quarterback, “there’s no shortcuts” in the NFL. Now in his second season, Maye aims to deliver the Patriots their seventh Super Bowl title and join Brady as one of the few quarterbacks to lead New England to a championship victory.
