Buffalo Bills Gift 70-Year-Old Cancer Patient Super Bowl Dream

Adolph Dupree, a 70-year-old lung cancer patient and lifelong Buffalo Bills fan from Rochester, New York, will attend Super Bowl LX at Levi Stadium this Sunday. The Buffalo Bills surprised Dupree by providing tickets through the NFL’s Super Bowl Ticket Program, offering a remarkable opportunity for him to witness the game live despite his ongoing health battle.

A Lifetime Devoted to Buffalo Bills Football

Dupree’s passion for the Bills extends back several decades.

“For a long time. Since the 60s, since the 70s, and since the 80s,”

Dupree said, expressing his enduring loyalty. Octoria Martinez, director of employment and business operations for Lifetime Assistance, where Dupree works and receives support, shared,

“Adolph loves football, and maybe love is an understatement for how he feels. He just has so much joy for sports, in general. But football, Adolph, something in him just kind of riles him up and he’s just like the number one fan.”

Beyond Football: A Life of Commitment and Community

Beyond his fan status, Dupree is an active member of his community. He holds multiple roles including singer, Special Olympics athlete and coach, and a warehouse worker under Martinez’s supervision. Martinez described Dupree’s caring nature:

“Adolph loves to care about other people. He likes to provide support wherever he can. And he likes to be helpful. He just likes to be front and center. Big smile on his face. He’s very welcoming.”

Facing Cancer with Strength and Determination

Despite carrying the difficult diagnosis of lung cancer, Dupree continues his daily life with remarkable resolve. He shared,

“I got lung cancer that I’m fighting, but I go to chemo, I go to appointments. I’m fighting it. I’m hanging in there. Doing pretty well.”

Martinez acknowledged how devastating the news was for everyone, but praised Dupree’s resilience:

“Cancer for anyone, any family, any friends, it’s a devastating diagnosis to be given. Adolph didn’t let that stop him at all. It didn’t stop him from coming to work. It didn’t stop him from putting a big smile on his face. It didn’t stop him from supporting other people.”

Super Bowl Experience Made Possible Through NFL Program

Recognizing Dupree’s unwavering enthusiasm for the Bills and his positive influence in the community, the team arranged for him to attend the Super Bowl through the NFL’s ticket program designed to honor deserving individuals and partners. Alongside a Special Olympics coach, Pat Dadey, Dupree will receive tickets, round-trip flights, hotel accommodations, and a gift card to cover meals and transportation during his trip. The tickets were presented to Dupree at the Bills’ recent game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Emotional Reaction to the Surprise Gift

Dupree recalled his feelings upon learning about the gift:

“I just cried just a little bit after I saw myself up on the screen. I was kind of surprised a little bit to get the tickets though because if Buffalo was, if they were in the Super Bowl, it would be something.”

Martinez described the moment vividly, saying,

“Just looking at the smile on his face said it all. I mean, that smile was just worth a thousand words. You can’t even kind of put words to how he was feeling, but you could just see it on his face.”

A Hopeful Fan’s Perspective on the Upcoming Game and Future Seasons

Although the Bills are not participating in Super Bowl LX, Dupree is still excited to experience the event firsthand. He discussed his views on the current game, expressing frustration over a controversial call:

“We were robbed and the man made the wide receiver, for Buffalo, made the catch, and he was already down. They made a very bad call,”

he said, shaking his head.

“I got Seattle. But it’ll be a close game.”

Looking ahead, Dupree remains optimistic.

“Always next season. We’ll do our best next season, and see who we play in our brand new stadium, and we’ll see how we do,”

he said with a smile, showing his undiminished commitment to his team.

Impact of the Gesture and What Lies Ahead

The Buffalo Bills’ gesture not only honors a devoted fan but also highlights the power of community support in challenging times. By granting Dupree this Super Bowl experience, the team reinforces the connection between professional sports and its passionate followers. For Dupree, this trip represents much more than a game; it is a symbol of hope and celebration amid adversity. As he looks forward to next season, his story serves as an inspiration for fans and communities everywhere.
