As the Las Vegas Raiders face uncertainty regarding their leadership and roster during this offseason, whispers about the potential trade of All-Pro pass rusher Maxx Crosby have resurfaced. Detroit Lions have been discussed as a possible destination, with many intrigued by the prospect of Crosby teaming up with star defender Aidan Hutchinson, the Lions’ sack leader.
Despite the buzz, Hutchinson himself has tempered expectations, indicating that while the idea is appealing, he believes the chances of a trade happening are quite slim.
Impact Crosby Would Have on Detroit’s Defensive Strength
The Lions currently rank 14th on PFSN’s Defense Impact Metric, largely due to Hutchinson’s impressive 14.5 sacks this past season. Bringing in Crosby, who consistently performs at an elite level, could propel Detroit’s defense into a dominant force, significantly boosting its pass-rushing capabilities.
“…in the event that it did happen, that would be so dangerous. Me and Maxx, have a great relationship, I’d love to play with him,”
Hutchinson acknowledged, highlighting the strong rapport between the two defenders.
Although their connection remains solid, with ongoing communication over the years, Hutchinson is realistic about the complexities involved in making such a trade a reality.
Financial and Roster Challenges Hamper Potential Trade
Hutchinson further explained,
“The likelihood of him coming to Detroit is high? No, just given with the amount of guys that they have to pay. In a dream world, though, it sounds really good, and it sounds right, which I’m all for.”
The Raiders, dealing with internal friction following Crosby’s shutdown in the regular-season finale, may seek a trade this offseason. Reports indicate Detroit is Crosby’s preferred destination if he becomes available, but acquiring him would come at a heavy cost.
Las Vegas is expected to demand multiple valuable assets, including players and future draft picks. Meanwhile, Detroit faces its own financial pressures with several key players due for contract extensions, making such an aggressive trade unlikely.
Crosby’s Consistent Elite Performance Amid Uncertainty
On the field, Crosby has maintained his high standard of play throughout seven NFL seasons, recording at least 10 sacks four times, including this past year despite missing Week 17. His statistics feature 73 tackles, 10 sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles, and six passes defensed, earning him the No. 2 spot on PFSN’s EDGE Impact Metric with a grade of 95.2.
Though the trade rumors generate excitement among fans and analysts, the financial and roster constraints facing the Lions, coupled with Crosby’s value to the Raiders, suggest that such a move remains improbable at this time.
