Gary’s cap hit is set at $28 million for the 2026 season and jumps to $31 million in 2027. Releasing him this offseason would save the Packers approximately $11 million against the cap, but General Manager Brian Gutekunst’s comments during the post-season press conference suggested Gary will remain with the team.
I expect all these guys that are under contract to be back, but we’re just getting started at looking at how we’re building out the team for next year,

I thought he started out really, really strong,
Gutekunst said.
He obviously had a lot of production early. I think he ended up with 60-some pressures, 7.5 sacks. That’s pretty good production in the National Football League.
The Packers went 5-1-1 during Gary’s effective early stretch but finished 4-5 afterwards. This inconsistency culminated in a painful wild card loss, where Green Bay squandered an 18-point lead.
I did think towards the end of the year, he wasn’t as productive as he was at the beginning,
Gutekunst added.
So, certainly, that will be something I’m sure he looks at personally and we look at as a team, how we can continue to make sure that his production is the same at the beginning and the end of the season.

Despite Gary’s steep cap hit exceeding his productivity at the end of the season, the Packers face other roster uncertainties at defensive end. Injuries and free agency moves involving players like Parsons and Kingsley Enagbare add complexity to the decision-making process.
The finances and production suggest the Packers will not bring back Gary,
