Puka Nacua Drops Surprising Shot at Rams’ Home Fans

Puka Nacua, the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver, recently attracted attention for his candid remarks about the environment at the Rams’ home stadium. Speaking during a podcast with Fred Warner of the San Francisco 49ers on February 6, Nacua addressed the impact of an upcoming NFL scheduling change that will move one of the Rams’ home games to a neutral location in Australia.

During the discussion, Nacua expressed his lukewarm feelings about the game being played abroad, citing that true home-field advantage is often lacking at SoFi Stadium. “Love it,” he said about the neutral site game, then added,

“Honestly, at SoFi, there’s not too many home games.”

Warner responded by saying this change was “honestly a blow to the 49ers, pointing to packed stadiums of fans in opposing colors as evidence of how difficult it can be to generate a strong local fan presence.

The remarks from one of the Rams’ key players brought attention to the unique challenges the team faces with their fan base. While the Rams were ranked sixth in attendance during the 2025 regular season according to Pro Football Reference, SoFi Stadium’s seating capacity ranks 13th among NFL venues. The benefits of a larger home crowd largely depend on loyal fans filling those seats, but many tickets are sold to supporters of visiting teams. Observers have noted this dilution of local support partly stems from the team’s prior absence from the city and the sharing of SoFi Stadium with the LA Chargers.

Since the start of the 2016 season, the Rams hold an 11th-best home record at 49-33, a statistic consistent over the past five seasons during the Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay era. This solid performance, however, occurs amid a challenging atmosphere where genuine home-field advantage has been questioned.

Nacua Praises Influential Teammates and Competitors

Beyond his critiques of the stadium atmosphere, Nacua spoke warmly about his teammates and past players who have shaped his experience in the league. He highlighted quarterback Matthew Stafford for his toughness and resilience, both on and off the field. Nacua admired Stafford’s emotional acceptance of his MVP award, particularly the moment he shared with his four daughters, calling it a “beautiful” instance that transcends the sport itself.

He also credited Stafford and the addition of Davante Adams as key contributors to the Rams’ top-ranked offense. Nacua’s respect extends beyond current teammates to include former wide receiver Cooper Kupp, now with the Seattle Seahawks. When asked if he had a message for anyone heading to the Super Bowl, Nacua offered effusive praise for Kupp, referring to him as

“the man, the myth, the legend, and the kid from Yakima.”

“I’m excited to watch you out there. Do your thing, man. You deserve this moment more than anybody. It’s an exciting journey that you’ve been on with your team. Going all the way to the NFC Championship and getting a chance to play against you, I know you’ve been there before. You’ve been to the big dance. You understand what it takes, the mental capacity that it takes, and the physical capacity that it takes. And, hey, I hope you have the opportunity to hoist that trophy up,”

Nacua said.

“You have about a couple days to have that parade, the ceremony, and I’ll see you back in LA, and we’re getting right back to it. So, hurry up.”

Implications for Rams and Fan Engagement Moving Forward

Nacua’s frank comments invite reflection on the Rams’ relationship with their fans and the challenges posed by stadium dynamics and shared venues. The neutral-site game in Australia exemplifies how the team is navigating unique obstacles within the league schedule, which could influence fan engagement and home-field advantage in the future.

As the Rams continue to build on the teamwork forged under head coach Sean McVay alongside star players such as Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams, addressing these challenges will be crucial. Nacua’s remarks not only shed light on internal perspectives but also reinforce the importance of fostering a strong, supportive fan environment to complement the team’s competitive efforts.

With rivals like the 49ers and Seahawks intensifying competition in the NFC West, and supporters watching closely, the Rams’ approach to home games and stadium atmosphere will remain a key factor in their pursuit of championships.
