Before rising to NFL prominence, Durde was a young boy in England fascinated by sports. A West Ham supporter initially, he soon developed an interest in American football at a time when the NFL had a very limited presence in the UK.
Durde followed games aired on Channel 4, well before the advent of streaming services or regular NFL matches held in London. As a six-year-old, he supported the Chicago Bears during their iconic 1985 Super Bowl-winning season, admiring players such as Richard Dent and Mike Singletary, who became formative heroes inspiring his love for the sport.

On April 11, 2018, he was appointed defensive quality control coach for the Atlanta Falcons under head coach Dan Quinn, becoming the first British full-time coach in NFL history and the first full-time NFL coach from outside the United States.
His career advanced steadily over the following seasons. On February 13, 2024, the Seattle Seahawks hired Durde as their defensive coordinator under head coach Mike Macdonald, marking the first time a British-born coach held this position in the NFL.
