The Dallas Cowboys concluded the 2025 NFL season with a disappointing 7-9-1 record, missing the playoffs entirely and forced to watch the Super Bowl from home. As the team looks ahead, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb emphasized the changes needed for Dallas to compete for the championship next year, highlighting both offense and defense as areas requiring attention.
Lamb Highlights the Importance of Fixing Both Offense and Defense
During a recent interview, Lamb spoke candidly about what the Cowboys must do to return to the Super Bowl. He stated,
“Well, for starters, we gotta fix both sides of the ball,”
Lamb told PFSN and other outlets.
“We gotta fix the defense. We gotta fix ourselves on offense and just obviously continue to be consistent, do everything we’re supposed to do, and ideally plan to do every week. And I really had too much of a drop off, and we gotta be who we are. I feel like we’re a very dominant team, both sides of the ball. We gotta put it together.”
Defensive Struggles Fueled by Key Personnel Changes
Lamb’s focus on improving the defense comes amid significant changes, including the late August trade of star EDGE Micah Parsons, whose departure left a noticeable void on the Dallas defense. According to PFSN’s impact score, the Cowboys’ defense ranked last in the league with a 62.1 rating, underscoring the critical need for defensive improvements.
Lamb Reflects on His Own Performance and Team Dynamics
The All-Pro wideout took some responsibility for his slight performance decline during the season. Lamb’s statistics showed 75 receptions for 1,077 yards and three touchdowns, marking a dip from previous seasons. Part of this drop can be attributed to the emergence of Pro Bowl receiver George Pickens, who made a strong impact in his first year with the team. Together, Lamb and Pickens formed one of the league’s top receiving pairs, with Lamb ranked 14th and Pickens 3rd at their position in PFSN metrics.
Consistency Will Be Crucial for Future Success
Throughout the season, the Cowboys demonstrated flashes of excellence, but consistency remained elusive. As Lamb noted, sustaining a high level of play on both offense and defense will be vital for Dallas to secure a playoff berth and contend for the Super Bowl in the upcoming year.
