Myles Garrett delivered an extraordinary performance last season, setting the single-season sack record and securing his second Defensive Player of the Year award. Despite these accomplishments, Garrett remains focused and determined to push further in the upcoming NFL season, aiming to continue his dominant presence on the field.
Mary Kay Cabot Highlights Garrett’s Unwavering Drive
Mary Kay Cabot, speaking on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast, emphasized that Garrett is not easing up on his efforts. She revealed that he has already set his sights on increasing his sack total for the next season and making another run at the Defensive Player of the Year honor.
Cabot also noted that if Garrett manages to secure a third Defensive Player of the Year award, he would tie the NFL record for the most wins in this category, joining an elite group of defenders.
He is showing no signs of slowing down, and he can win it again. He can go out there and win it again next year, and I think he’s going to be on a tear to do that,
Cabot said.
He had 25 [sacks] written on his wrist tape, and he wants 25. So I think he’s going to be on another mission to do that and to get his third NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, which would tie him for most in the NFL,
she added.
Career Sack Milestones and Future Prospects
With 125.5 career sacks, Garrett ranks 20th on the all-time NFL sack list. However, if he continues his current trajectory, he could soon move up the ranks and challenge Bruce Smith’s record of 200 career sacks, the highest in league history.
Maintaining or surpassing his record-breaking sack total would further establish Garrett as one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history. His ability to consistently disrupt opposing offenses makes him a critical asset for the Cleveland Browns and a formidable challenge for any offensive line.
Implications for the Browns and the NFL
Garrett’s pursuit of a third Defensive Player of the Year award not only energizes Browns fans but also provides a solid foundation for the team’s defensive strategy moving forward. For the incoming defensive coordinator, having a player of Garrett’s caliber offers a significant advantage in crafting game plans focused on defensive dominance.
As Garrett continues to chase historic achievements, his performances will be closely watched by the league, shaping perceptions about the impact and legacy of defensive players in the NFL.
