Jason Myers Shatters Super Bowl Records in Seahawks Win

Jason Myers delivered an exceptional performance in Super Bowl LX, helping the Seattle Seahawks secure a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots. On this historic night, Myers set a new Super Bowl record by successfully kicking five field goals and contributed two extra points, totaling a record 17 points scored by a kicker during the game.

Myers’ precise kicking earned him significant recognition as he powered the Seahawks to triumph while etching his name into NFL history by breaking several records, including the most points scored by a kicker in a single Super Bowl.

From Humble Beginnings in San Diego to Super Bowl Stardom

Jason Myers’ journey to NFL success began in the South Bay area of San Diego, where he was raised in Chula Vista and graduated from Mater Dei Catholic High School in 2009. At Mater Dei Catholic, Myers excelled as an athlete, eventually earning a spot in the Crusader Hall of Fame, with his NFL jerseys proudly displayed around campus.

John Joyner, Myers’ former high school football coach and now an administrator at Mater Dei Catholic, recalled the excitement watching Myers’ Super Bowl victory. Joyner expressed his enthusiasm:

“Oh yeah, I was hooting and hollering,”

and added,

“I had my kids going crazy.”

Despite Myers’ high school athleticism, his path to professional football was unconventional. Joyner called Myers a “true underdog story,” explaining that Myers initially excelled more at soccer than football but remained determined to pursue kicking, attending Marist University and later playing in the Arena Football League.

Jason was a better soccer player than football player in high school, but he wanted to kick, so he went to a small college, Marist University, then the Arena Football League. That determination to never give up on his dream, and now he’s a Super Bowl champ and a record setter. I’m super proud of him.

Veteran Players and Community Celebrate Myers’ Remarkable Achievements

The pride in Myers’ accomplishments extends beyond his hometown. John Carney, a former San Diego Charger kicker with 23 years of NFL experience and a personal friend of Myers, praised his Super Bowl performance as one of the greatest playoff displays ever by a kicker.

Carney remarked,

“Jason Myers just put his name on that list. You can chisel that in stone — it was great. He put on a masterpiece at the highest NFL level: the Super Bowl.”

He also commended the Seahawks’ special teams unit for an outstanding collective effort and added,

“To see Jason come through at one of the brightest moments of his life with his Seahawk teammates and come away with the win was fantastic. I couldn’t be more proud of him and his career.”

Setting a New Standard for Points Scored in a Season

In addition to his Super Bowl records, Myers also set a fresh NFL milestone for total points scored in a single season, including playoffs, by amassing 206 points. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 198 points held by former San Diego Charger and NFL legend LaDainian Tomlinson, who scored 33 touchdowns during the 2006-07 regular season and postseason combined.

Myers Reflects on an Unforgettable Night

After the Seahawks’ victory, Myers shared his feelings about the experience:

Maybe in a few weeks, when I go home to see my family and friends, maybe it will set in more. Right now, I’m just enjoying the moment.

His record-breaking night at the Super Bowl is already considered a landmark achievement in his career and could inspire future kickers aiming to leave their mark on the NFL’s biggest stage.
