Rob Havenstein Retires After 11 NFL Seasons with Rams

Rob Havenstein, the veteran offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams, announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL, according to a report by Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. The decision marks the end of a career spent entirely with the Rams, beginning in St. Louis and continuing through the team’s relocation to Los Angeles. Havenstein’s retirement comes as quarterback Matthew Stafford commits to playing in the 2026 season, signaling a shift in the Rams roster.

Career Highlights and Consistent Performance Throughout 11 Seasons

Selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the then-St. Louis Rams, Havenstein never earned a Pro Bowl nod but was a reliable starter throughout his tenure. He started all 148 games he appeared in, demonstrating remarkable durability and consistency. In nine of his eleven seasons, he recorded double-digit starts, solidifying his place as a mainstay on the offensive line.

Challenges and Injuries Mark the 2025 Season

The 2025 season proved difficult for Havenstein, as he was limited to just seven starts due to an ankle injury. Starting the first four games, he missed three contests and returned for three additional appearances before being placed on injured reserve after Week 11. Head coach Sean McVay confirmed that both ankle and knee issues affected Havenstein’s ability to compete.

Havenstein reflected on the struggle throughout the season, saying,

“And this is a performance league,”

and,

“Did everything I could in my power – rest, injections, rehab, whatever it happened to be – to try and get this thing to feel a little better. And just kind of lost that battle.”

Despite the setbacks, he emphasized the value of his time with the team, stating,

“So it was definitely tough, trying to process that and kind of what that brings. But it was definitely a challenging year, a fun year for the room, even just being with those guys, whether I was playing or not, it was one of the better times I’ve had.”

Leadership Role Off the Field During Final Season

Even while sidelined, Havenstein remained a key presence in the Rams’ locker room. Head coach McVay praised his influence, saying,

“I just can’t say enough about the way that he’s impacted the team even while he’s not able to play,”

and highlighted the mentorship he provided, adding,

“The mentorship that he provides for the group, the wisdom that he has, and (offensive line coach) Ryan Wendell does such a great job of being able to give him that platform that he’s earned to pour into these guys.”

Looking Ahead: The Impact of Havenstein’s Retirement on the Rams

Rob Havenstein’s retirement closes a significant chapter for the Rams’ offensive line, which has relied on his experience and stability for over a decade. His departure may leave a gap in leadership and protection that the coaching staff will need to address as the team looks to support quarterback Matthew Stafford’s continuing career. The experience and guidance Havenstein shared with younger teammates will remain an important part of the Rams’ foundation moving forward.
