Tyler Allgeier’s Falcons Return Looks Increasingly Unlikely

Tyler Allgeier, the Atlanta Falcons running back drafted in the fifth round in 2022 from BYU, has delivered solid production over his four seasons, rushing for 2,876 yards and scoring 18 rushing touchdowns. Despite his strong track record, including a franchise rookie record of 1,035 rushing yards in 2022 and ranking seventh among NFL running backs in EPA per carry with over 250 carries since then, his future with the Falcons appears uncertain. According to The Athletic’s Josh Kendall,

“it’s hard to imagine how Atlanta will be able to bring him back.”

Performance Highlights and Team Dynamics

Allgeier has demonstrated remarkable ball security, being one of only two running backs with more than 500 carries over this period who have not committed a fumble. In the 2025 season, he carried the ball 143 times for 514 yards and achieved a career-high eight rushing touchdowns. Despite this, the Falcons are unlikely to offer him a starting-caliber contract with the arrival of Bijan Robinson, their prominent new running back, which positions Allgeier as a probable backup.

Potential Impact on Allgeier’s Career and Fantasy Prospects

While Allgeier has expressed interest in remaining with Atlanta, the financial and roster realities make a reunion doubtful. Should he become an unrestricted free agent, it is expected that his strong performance and reliable playing style will garner significant interest from other teams. This scenario could greatly boost his value in fantasy football leagues for the 2026 season, especially depending on where he signs and the role he assumes.
