This offseason, the Baltimore Ravens are navigating critical decisions, with the status of their starting center, Tyler Linderbaum, drawing significant attention. As Linderbaum approaches free agency, the team is eager to retain the key offensive lineman amid competitive market pressures.
General Manager Eric DeCosta Opens Up on Negotiations
Ravens GM Eric DeCosta recently discussed the ongoing contract talks during an episode of The Inner Circle Podcast alongside Aaron Donald, Zach Klein, and Todd France. He emphasized the importance of keeping Linderbaum in Baltimore.
“We’ve got some work to do on Tyler Linderbaum’s contract,”
DeCosta stated.
“We strongly hope to have him back. He’s a great player for us and a great leader.”
DeCosta also mentioned efforts to strengthen the guard position in the upcoming offseason and highlighted that rookie Emery Jones Jr. might compete for a starting spot in 2026.
Financial Challenges Surrounding Linderbaum’s Deal
Linderbaum’s contract negotiations are particularly complex due to his rising value in the league. The three-time Pro Bowler is expected to become the highest-paid center in the NFL, surpassing the current top spot held by Creed Humphrey, who earns $18 million annually. The Ravens declined Linderbaum’s fifth-year option, not because of performance concerns, but because the $23.4 million cost for 2026 exceeded the center market’s highest salaries.
The franchise tag option is similarly impractical, limiting Baltimore’s ability to retain Linderbaum through traditional team-controlled measures. As a result, the fourth-year player is projected to enter free agency unless the Ravens reach a contract agreement before the March 11 deadline.
Market Demand and Next Steps for the Ravens
Given the league-wide needs for offensive linemen, many teams may be willing to offer Linderbaum a lucrative contract if Baltimore hesitates. With the NFL Scouting Combine beginning next week, the Ravens hope to gain clarity on how to proceed with negotiations and possibly secure Linderbaum’s future with the team.
