Baker Mayfield Downplays Feud with Kevin Stefanski Ahead of 2026

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield recently sparked conversation by suggesting that Kevin Stefanski never contacted him following his exit from the Cleveland Browns early in his career. Despite this, Mayfield is minimizing any notion of ongoing conflict with the newly appointed head coach of the Atlanta Falcons as they prepare for the 2026 season.

Clarifying the Nature of Their Relationship

In an interview during a Super Bowl LX radio session with Sports Illustrated, Mayfield stated,

“There’s stuff there, but it’s not like its beef,”

clarifying that although there is some history, it does not amount to a genuine feud. He added,

“We’ve worked together, anytime you know somebody, you want to beat them whether it’s a good or bad relationship,”

emphasizing the competitive spirit that exists regardless of personal dynamics.

Stefanski’s Respectful Response to Mayfield

Kevin Stefanski responded with measured diplomacy when speaking to reporters in late January. He remarked,

“Baker’s somebody that I have a ton of respect for as a player and a person,”

highlighting his admiration. He further explained,

“I love rivalries in sports and obviously Buccaneers-Falcons have a great rivalry. It’s something that I’m excited about, but I would not get into the specifics of those type of things other than to say I have a ton of respect for Baker as a player, as a person. That’s a great team with a great player.”

Anticipation for the 2026 Season Matchups

Although both Mayfield and Stefanski have expressed mutual respect, fans can still expect heightened intensity when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off against the Atlanta Falcons in the 2026 season. This developing dynamic adds an extra layer of intrigue to their encounters, contributing to an already fierce rivalry within the NFL.
