Rondale Moore Dead at 25: Former NFL Star Dies in New Albany

Rondale Moore, a former standout football player and NFL wide receiver, was found dead on Saturday in New Albany, Indiana, at the age of 25. Emergency responders arrived at a garage on the 1600 block of Ekin Avenue around 5:27 p.m., where Moore was located before being transported to Baptist Health Floyd and pronounced deceased shortly after 6 p.m.

Investigation Points to Suicide

The New Albany Police Department initially reported Moore was pronounced dead upon their arrival. Police and the Floyd County Coroner’s Office are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, which officials suspect to be a suicide.

Rondale Moore’s Athletic Career and Achievements

Moore’s football talent was evident early on as he played for New Albany High School before transferring to Trinity High School for the remainder of his high school career. He then played for Purdue University under coach Jeff Brohm, who currently leads the University of Louisville’s football program. During his college career, Moore earned the Paul Hornung Award, given to the nation‘s most versatile player.

Jeff Brohm expressed his sorrow on social media, saying,

“Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach,”

and added,

“Rondale had a work ethic unmatched by anyone.”

 

Professional Challenges and Later Career

Moore was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. His professional career, however, was hampered by a series of injuries, including one that led to him spending the last season on injured reserve with the Minnesota Vikings. Despite these setbacks, Moore’s impact on the field remained significant during his college years and early NFL tenure.
