Cowboys Eye Contract Extension for Kicker Brandon Aubrey

The Dallas Cowboys are actively pursuing a contract extension for kicker Brandon Aubrey before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in March, when the new NFL league year begins. Discussions between the team and Aubrey have been underway since prior to last season, with both sides working to reach an agreement.

Statements from Cowboys’ Executive

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ Executive Vice President, confirmed the team’s commitment to retaining Aubrey. Speaking about the ongoing talks, Jones said,

“We’ve been in talks with Aubrey, even before the season started,”

as reported by Jon Machota.

“That’s been a journey, but we haven’t been able to get to a point where we can all agree. Hadn’t gotten done but we’d love to get him done.”

Aubrey’s Career and Performance with the Cowboys

Brandon Aubrey, 30, initially gained professional experience with the Birmingham Stallions after being selected in the 2022 USFL draft, spending two seasons with the team before signing with the Cowboys in July 2023. His current contract spans three years with a total value of $2.695 million, including a base salary of $1.03 million scheduled for 2025.

During the 2025 NFL season, Aubrey demonstrated consistent performance by playing in all 17 games, successfully converting 36 of 42 field goals and making 47 out of 48 extra point attempts. His reliable kicking has made him a valuable asset for the Cowboys’ special teams unit.

Future Outlook for Aubrey and the Cowboys

The discussions surrounding Brandon Aubrey’s contract extension highlight the Cowboys’ desire to maintain continuity in their kicking game. Securing Aubrey’s services beyond the upcoming free agency period would provide stability for the team’s special teams and reflect confidence in his demonstrated reliability. With ongoing negotiations, both parties appear hopeful that a mutual agreement will be reached before March, ensuring Aubrey remains a key component of the Cowboys’ roster.
