Buffalo Bills Re-Sign Alec Anderson and Phidarian Mathis

The Buffalo Bills officially announced on Monday, February 23, that they have re-signed offensive guard Alec Anderson to a one-year contract. Anderson, who was a restricted free agent going into the 2026 offseason, has been an important figure for Buffalo’s offensive line since joining the team.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2022, Anderson has appeared in 39 games over three seasons, starting six times, including five postseason matchups. In 2024, he contributed significantly to the Bills’ six-offensive line set and demonstrated his ability to play both guard and tackle positions as the offense evolved in 2025.

Phidarian Mathis Returns to Buffalo’s Defensive Front

In addition to Anderson, Buffalo also re-signed defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis on Monday, locking in the unrestricted free agent for the upcoming season. Mathis, entering his fifth year in the NFL, joined the Bills in 2025 after three seasons with Washington.

Drafted 47th overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Commanders, Mathis played 23 games for Washington before being waived in December 2024. Buffalo added him to their practice squad on September 10, 2025, and he appeared in six games, recording 13 tackles in his first season with the Bills.

Implications for Buffalo’s Roster Moving Forward

The re-signing of both Alec Anderson and Phidarian Mathis ensures that Buffalo maintains valuable depth on both the offensive and defensive lines as they prepare for potential roster changes. With several linemen approaching restricted and unrestricted free agency, these moves provide stability while the team evaluates adjustments ahead of the 2026 season.
