Texans GM Nick Caserio Stands Firm Behind C.J. Stroud

During the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio expressed unwavering confidence in quarterback C.J. Stroud, dismissing rumors of possible changes at the position this offseason. Despite Stroud’s difficulties in two recent playoff games, Caserio was clear about the team’s direction. “He’s our quarterback,” Caserio stated. “He’s not going anywhere.”

Analyzing Stroud’s Performance in Postseason and Regular Season

C.J. Stroud dealt with significant challenges during the Texans’ playoff appearances, including throwing five interceptions and fumbling five times between games against Pittsburgh and New England. Notably, he threw one interception and lost five fumbles in the AFC Wild Card round against Pittsburgh, followed by four interceptions during the first half of the Divisional playoff loss to New England.

In the regular season, however, Stroud completed 64.5% of his passes, recording 3,041 yards along with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His 2023 season also earned him the AFC Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, highlighting his potential despite recent struggles.

Caserio and Head Coach DeMeco Ryans’ Ongoing Support for Stroud

Caserio emphasized that both he and head coach DeMeco Ryans believe Stroud will improve during his upcoming fourth season in 2026. Rejecting speculation about trading the quarterback, Caserio labeled such ideas as “moronic,” reinforcing the team’s trust in Stroud’s development.

“We’re going to support our players and do everything we can to help them,”

Caserio said.

This league is about ups and downs. Nothing’s perfect.

Future Contract Plans and Team Strategy

While Caserio acknowledged that contract talks with Stroud and star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. have not commenced, securing extensions for key players remains a priority for the Texans. He described the process as cautious and strategic, focusing on assembling a competitive team that aligns with the organization’s goals.

“We take it one day at a time and just try to piece the team together and try to do, ultimately, what we feel makes the most sense for our team and the organization,”

Caserio added.

What This Means for the Texans Moving Forward

Nick Caserio’s strong backing of C.J. Stroud underscores the Texans’ commitment to building around their young quarterback despite recent setbacks. This stance suggests stability at the quarterback position as the team prepares for the 2026 season, aiming for steady growth under the guidance of head coach DeMeco Ryans. The focus on contract extensions for key players indicates a longer-term vision centered on squad continuity and development.
