Texans GM Slams ‘Moronic’ C.J. Stroud Trade Rumors Ahead of Extension

The Houston Texans have dismissed circulating trade rumors involving quarterback C.J. Stroud following the team’s disappointing playoff defeat. General manager Nick Caserio emphatically stated at Tuesday’s NFL scouting combine that Stroud will remain with the Texans, labeling the trade talk as “moronic.” This reassurance comes as Stroud approaches eligibility for a contract extension after his third NFL season.

Stroud’s Desire to Stay with Houston Despite Playoff Setback

At 24 years old, Stroud has openly expressed his intention to remain in Houston on a long-term deal. After the Texans’ loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round, during which Stroud struggled with four interceptions in the first half, he conveyed both disappointment and commitment to the city.

“I want to be here for as long as I can. I love the city of Houston,”

Stroud said last month. He added,

“It really hurts me. I wish it didn’t go that way. My intent was to go out there and ball.”

Performance Review and Future Prospects for the Texans Signal-Caller

Following a stellar rookie campaign in 2023 when he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Stroud has faced challenges living up to those early expectations. Still, he has played a pivotal role in guiding Houston to three consecutive playoff appearances. Over 14 games last season, Stroud threw for 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, illustrating his ongoing value to the team despite inconsistent outings.

Texans’ Plans Focus on Retaining Their Young Quarterback

With trade rumors now firmly dismissed by Caserio, Houston appears committed to securing Stroud’s future with the franchise. The front office is likely to prioritize negotiating a contract extension, signaling confidence that the young quarterback remains a cornerstone for the Texans’ rebuilding efforts.
