Texans’ GM Slams C.J. Stroud Trade Rumors: “He’s Our QB”

Throughout the NFL offseason, the Houston Texans have been firm on their commitment to quarterback C.J. Stroud, despite persistent trade rumors following the 2025 season. As the 2024 NFL Combine approaches, speculation about possible moves involving the second overall pick in the 2023 draft has intensified. Texans general manager Nick Caserio confronted these rumors directly during a media session on February 24, reaffirming the team’s dedication to Stroud as their franchise quarterback.

Texans’ Leadership Expresses Strong Confidence in Stroud’s Future

Since taking the GM role in 2021, Nick Caserio has witnessed the Texans’ performance both with and without C.J. Stroud under center. His experiences have reinforced the organization’s belief in Stroud’s potential. Caserio emphatically dismissed trade talk as “moronic,” making it unequivocally clear that the quarterback is not going anywhere.

“He’s our quarterback. He ain’t going anywhere,”

Caserio said.

“We have a lot of confidence, a lot of belief [in Stroud], and I’d say the philosophy me and DeMeco [Ryans] have, we’re going to support our players and do everything we can to kind of help them.”

While Caserio joked about leaving any predictions beyond 2026 open-ended, he underscored that football is a game marked by challenges and fluctuations. “Nothing’s perfect,” he noted, pointing out that no team has ever gone undefeated. Ultimately, he emphasized that what distinguishes teams and players is how they respond to adversity.

Handling Stroud’s Struggles and The Path Ahead

Stroud has faced difficulties, especially during the postseason where his performance included five interceptions and five fumbles, leading to turnovers that affected the Texans’ playoff aspirations. Despite these setbacks, he has openly acknowledged his mistakes, showing a mature approach to improvement. Caserio reiterated that confidence in Stroud remains unwavering and compared the situation to a stock market downturn, advocating for increased investment rather than panic.

“Look, the stock market has been going down for five days. So, everybody’s probably panic-selling,”

Caserio explained.

“Really, what you should do, is you may invest in more. So, but anyways, we have a lot of confidence in C.J., have got a lot of confidence in our players, and I’m glad he’s our quarterback.”

This endorsement signals the Texans’ intent to build around Stroud, although financial considerations loom large. The team currently exceeds the salary cap, necessitating roster adjustments or contract restructures to free salary space for strengthening the squad.

GM Reaffirms Support Following Playoff Disappointment

Caserio’s statements on Tuesday echoed his earlier comments at the conclusion of the 2025 season. In January, he praised Stroud’s accomplishments throughout the year while acknowledging areas needing growth.

“Every player, the offseason is about improvement, and what are some of the things that you can do better? C.J. had a really good season. He’s done a lot of great things. Done a lot of great things for his team, a lot of great things for this organization,”

Caserio told reporters.

“C.J. played good football this year.”

The Texans fell short in the AFC Divisional Playoff against the New England Patriots, a game negatively impacted by turnovers — a factor involving Stroud’s contributions. Although these moments remain a concern, they have not diminished the Texans’ resolve to keep Stroud as their quarterback moving forward.

Long-Term Commitment to C.J. Stroud Despite Challenges

Nick Caserio’s unyielding support highlights the Texans’ strategy of cultivating and backing their young quarterback through both triumphs and setbacks. As the team prepares for the coming season, decisions on salary cap management and roster construction will be pivotal. Investing further in Stroud indicates the Texans’ belief in his capability to lead them to future success, signaling stability amidst the ongoing trade speculation.
