Jerry Jones Plans to Make Brandon Aubrey Highest-Paid Kicker

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to position Brandon Aubrey as the highest-paid kicker in the NFL this offseason, highlighting their strong interest in retaining the restricted free agent. Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones expressed the team’s commitment to rewarding Aubrey’s performance, reflecting the organization’s confidence in his abilities and value.

Jerry Jones Expresses Strong Support for Aubrey

Jones made it clear the Cowboys intend to offer Aubrey a leading salary at his position. He said,

“We want to make him the highest-paid player. We think he’s outstanding. Love his story, love the fact that the story is with the Cowboys. We feel good that what we are talking about is an appreciation of what he can do for us. That’s a way of, not trying to negotiate with anything that I might say here, but we’ve got a good offer on the table for him.”

Current Market and Contract Negotiation Details

At present, the highest annual salary for a kicker is held by Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs, who earns $6.4 million per year. The Cowboys propose a long-term deal for Aubrey that would average close to $7.5 million annually. However, Aubrey is reportedly seeking a contract closer to $10 million a year, creating a gap between the two sides’ expectations.

Restricted Free Agent Status and Next Steps

The Cowboys plan to place a second-round tender on Aubrey, which would require any team signing him away in free agency to compensate Dallas with a second-round draft pick. This tender also includes a one-year contract offer worth $5.8 million, which Aubrey could accept if he chooses to remain with the Cowboys. Despite this, Aubrey’s goal appears to be securing a contract well above the tender amount, whether with Dallas or another franchise.
