Cowboys Restructure CeeDee Lamb, Save $66M in Cap Space

The Dallas Cowboys have taken significant steps to manage their salary cap by restructuring contracts for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott, and offensive guard Tyler Smith ahead of the free agency period starting March 11. These adjustments have created approximately $66 million in additional salary cap space, allowing the team more financial flexibility for the upcoming offseason.

Additional Contract Changes Planned for Future Salary Cap Relief

Team owner Jerry Jones has indicated that the Cowboys plan to restructure contracts for defensive players Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, and Osa Odighizuwa. Combined, these players are expected to account for around $63 million against the cap in 2026. These moves signal the organization’s broader strategy to manage long-term cap commitments while building a competitive roster.

Jerry Jones Emphasizes Urgent Need to Improve Defensive Performance

Speaking to The U.S. Sun at the Fanatics Super Bowl party in San Francisco, Jones highlighted the necessity of addressing the team’s defensive struggles. After a disappointing defensive ranking in the 2025 season, he acknowledged the need for significant changes on that side of the ball.

We’ve got to address the defensive side of the ball,

Jones told The Sun.

He further acknowledged the difficulty of standing still in any aspect of the game and expressed confidence in recent coaching staff changes aimed at improving the defense.

They’re all talking the same goals as well as in a way that the players can execute what they’re trying to teach you.

Jones explained.

Future Prospects and Roster Adjustments for the Cowboys

Despite the salary cap relief, the Cowboys will still face limitations in spending but can look to improve their defense through their two first-round draft picks. Jerry Jones indicated the team would pursue “dramatic” offseason moves to strengthen its roster and address on-field shortcomings. These strategic financial and personnel decisions may prove crucial in the team’s effort to remain competitive in the coming seasons.
