Major League Volleyball (MLV) announced on Monday that longtime sports executive Jaime Weston has been appointed as the league’s first commissioner. MLV, now in its third year and formerly called the Pro Volleyball Federation, operates as one of two professional women’s volleyball leagues in the United States, currently featuring teams across eight cities with plans to expand to ten by 2027. Weston’s appointment highlights her growing influence in the sports industry, particularly with her extensive background as a Jaime Weston NFL executive.
Weston’s Career Path Leading to MLV Leadership
Since December 2024, Weston has served as chief commercial officer for USA Volleyball, where she has managed brand and commercial strategies in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Prior to that, she held prominent positions such as senior vice president of marketing at the National Football League and executive vice president of global consumer marketing at Universal Music Group. Weston also brings experience from executive roles in hospitality and live event management. Her collegiate volleyball experience dates back to 1990, when she earned a letter playing at Georgia Tech.
Vision for the Growth of Professional Women’s Volleyball
Weston emphasized the unique position of volleyball in the United States as a sport led and defined by women. She stated,
“In the U.S., the sport is female-led and female-defined, and professional women’s volleyball is not following a blueprint. It’s designing one. Major League Volleyball will build on its foundation and scale this momentum into a league that sets the standard for the future.”
Leadership Changes Within Major League Volleyball
The league also announced that Jen Spicher, who has been serving as president since MLV’s inception, will shift into the role of executive vice president of volleyball operations. This realignment is intended to support the league’s continued growth and operational focus as it advances.
MLV’s Emerging Role in U.S. Professional Sports
The appointment of Jaime Weston as commissioner marks a significant milestone for Major League Volleyball as it navigates its early years and looks to establish itself as a leader in professional women’s volleyball. With an experienced leader familiar with high-profile marketing and commercial roles, MLV aims to expand its appeal and influence ahead of key sporting events in the coming years.
