Commanders Secure Nick Allegretti with New Two-Year Deal

The Washington Commanders have reached an agreement with offensive lineman Nick Allegretti on a new two-year contract, extending his stay with the team. The deal arrives with one year left on his previous contract, solidifying Allegretti’s role as a key player for the franchise.

Allegretti is expected to take over as the primary option at center following the unexpected release of veteran Tyler Biadasz. This move signals the Commanders’ confidence in Allegretti to fill the vacancy and contribute significantly to their offensive line.

Allegretti’s Journey to Becoming a Starter

Late last season, Washington had considered trading Allegretti if a suitable trade partner had emerged. Instead, he stepped into the starting lineup after Biadasz’s departure and performed well enough to earn this contract extension. At 29 years old, Allegretti has proven his adaptability and value to the team.

A seventh-round selection by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 out of Illinois, Allegretti completed his four-year rookie contract with the Chiefs before entering free agency. He initially agreed to a deal to stay with Kansas City, then later signed a three-year, $16 million contract with Washington as a free agent.

Recent Playing Time and Outlook

In the 2023 season, Allegretti appeared in all 16 games for the Commanders, starting in four. His consistent presence on the field and versatility contributed to the team’s decision to maintain his services.

This new two-year contract highlights the Commanders’ commitment to stabilizing their offensive line and building around experienced players like Allegretti as they prepare for upcoming seasons.
