Von Miller Open to Denver Return if Commanders Exit

Von Miller, who recorded nine sacks with the Washington Commanders last season, expressed in early January his desire to remain with the team in 2026. However, he also indicated that if staying with the Commanders does not materialize, he would welcome the opportunity to revisit his NFL beginnings by returning to the Denver Broncos.

Miller’s Desire for Closure with Denver Broncos

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Miller reaffirmed his appreciation for his time with Washington but highlighted a personal motivation tied to Denver. He said,

“If something were to happen and I’m not a Washington Commander, then I would love to go to the Denver Broncos,”

emphasizing that he never had a proper farewell with the team where his NFL career began.

“I didn’t get that chance to have closure. I didn’t get to walk into the stadium and be like, ‘OK, this is my last game’ or ‘I’m gonna do this with the fans.’ I didn’t get that closure. So, I would love to have closure with the Denver Broncos. And if, hey, the Commanders don’t want me, the Denver Broncos don’t want me, there’s a team out there that’s gonna pick me up that would love to have my tricks on their roster. I just play it by ear. This is my second time around doing it. I kind of know what to expect. Just got to make the best out of whatever decision I get.”

Miller’s Career Highlights and Denver Broncos Context

Miller’s journey in the NFL began with the Broncos, who selected him second overall in the 2011 draft. Over 142 games with Denver, he earned three All-Pro selections and was named MVP of Super Bowl 50. The current Broncos general manager, George Paton, was part of the front office during Miller’s last season in Denver before his trade to the Rams in 2021. Since then, the Broncos have undergone a noticeable transition by hiring Sean Payton as head coach in 2023 and achieving the top seed in the AFC playoffs last season.

Potential Impact of a Return to Denver

Should the Broncos decide that Miller’s experience and skills align with their ambitions to remain a leading AFC contender, his return could symbolize a full-circle moment in his career. The edge rusher’s willingness to adapt and contribute highlights a seasoned professional prepared to make the most out of whichever team welcomes him next, whether it be the Commanders, Broncos, or another franchise seeking his veteran presence.
