Aaron Rodgers Praises Mike McCarthy but Keeps Playing Plans Quiet

Aaron Rodgers has yet to reveal whether he will return to play this season, for the Pittsburgh Steelers or any other team. However, he expressed strong admiration for the Steelers’ new head coach, Mike McCarthy, highlighting their close relationship and mutual respect. Rodgers spoke about McCarthy during an interview with Pat McAfee, emphasizing the positive impact McCarthy has had on him both personally and professionally.

Reflection on Years of Partnership with McCarthy

Rodgers described Mike McCarthy as

“one of the great guys in the league”

and shared that they enjoyed many successful seasons together during McCarthy’s 13-year tenure coaching the Green Bay Packers. Their collaboration included winning Super Bowl XLV, a pinnacle achievement in their careers. Rodgers highlighted McCarthy’s combination of care and accountability toward players, noting how the coach instilled structure and attention to detail that contributed to their success on the field.

Mike’s one of the great guys in the league,

Rodgers said.

Just an absolutely exceptional human being with a huge heart. We had a lot of great years together, a lot of fun. He really cares about the players. But he also holds guys accountable and creates a lot of structure and details in the process. I loved my time with Mike. Obviously there are times where like a big brother, sometimes you love him, sometimes you’re pissed at him. But deep down, there’s so much love for Mike and appreciation for the time we spent together.

Confidence in McCarthy’s Future with the Steelers

Rodgers expressed confidence that McCarthy’s arrival represents an excellent opportunity for the Steelers franchise. He praised the decision to bring in a coach of McCarthy’s caliber, especially given the team’s current stage.

I don’t think you can do better at this time in this franchise’s history than bringing in a guy like Mike McCarthy,

Rodgers remarked.

Rodgers’ Playing Status Remains Undecided

With Rodgers officially becoming a free agent next week, many are eager to know if he will continue playing under McCarthy’s leadership in Pittsburgh. Rodgers, however, was clear that he was not ready to announce any decisions regarding his playing future during the interview.

Anybody on here who is expecting me to make a big decision, just shut off, turn it off now,

Rodgers cautioned.

For now, Rodgers will take time to consider his options, while McCarthy remains hopeful that his former quarterback will join the Steelers roster this season.
