Chargers Release Will Dissly and Mekhi Becton in Big Move

The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Wednesday the release of offensive guard Mekhi Becton and tight end Will Dissly, along with waiving offensive tackle Savion Washington. These roster moves are part of the team’s ongoing efforts to manage their salary cap and roster composition.

Financial Impact and Roster Adjustments for 2026

Cutting Becton will save the Chargers $9.7 million against the 2026 salary cap, while Dissly’s release frees an additional $4 million. According to overthecap.com, this increases the team’s cap space to approximately $98 million. Becton had signed a two-year, $20 million contract last offseason and was set to receive a $2.5 million roster bonus early in the 2026 league year.

With these changes, the Chargers will need to find a starting right guard for the 2026 season.

Changes in Tight End Depth After Dissly’s Departure

Will Dissly, who spent the last two seasons with the Chargers, recorded 61 catches for 578 yards and two touchdowns, most notably in the 2024 season. He struggled with injuries last year, playing only part of the season and ending with 11 receptions for 97 yards. Dissly began his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent six seasons.

Following Dissly’s release, Oronde Gadsden remains the only tight end currently under contract. Tyler Conklin is expected to hit free agency, and Tucker Fisk holds restricted free agent status.
